Wet ARMD
Wet macular degeneration occurs when newly formed blood vessels grow in the macular area and begin to leak. The leakage of the fluid causes damage to the retinal cells. A sudden increase in blurry vision or distortion of images is noted by patients with wet macular degeneration. The presence of this type of leakage can be detected with the use of special imaging technology called OCT. Having this technology allows for earlier detection of fluid in the macular area. Dr. Unterberger is able to offer OCT imaging for all her patients.
Treatment for Wet ARMD
Once wet macular degeneration is identified, it can be treated. Patients are referred to an Ophthalmologist for the necessary treatment. The most common treatment for wet macular degeneration is the injection of medication to reduce the fluid in the retina. There are several different Anti-VEGF medications that are used for treatment and your Ophthalmologist will be able to discuss the pros and cons of each with you.
